Facial massage isn’t just about beauty—it’s about understanding the connection between skin, body, and self. Jeanne Casimir, renowned French facialist, brings this philosophy to life with every treatment she offers. From her early days at Nuxe during a pivotal time in French beauty, to her significant role in establishing Aesop across Europe, Jeanne’s journey is rooted in a passion for the sensory aspects of skincare. Her experience shaped her unique approach: a mix of technical expertise, a creative artist’s touch, and a deep belief in personalized care.

Jeanne’s distinctive facial massage technique has emerged from years of study and practice. At the age of 35, she earned her certification in aesthetic cosmetics and perfumery, pushing herself to understand every muscle and contour of the face. What sets her apart is her artist-like approach: she sees each client’s face as a canvas, a surface that tells a story and demands a tailored response. Her sessions are more than just skin-deep—they are explorations of well-being, seeking not only to improve the skin’s appearance but also to foster emotional comfort.

In this interview, Jeanne reflects on her inspiring journey—from building her skills in some of beauty’s most prestigious brands to creating transformative rituals for her clients.

What inspired your journey into the world of facial massage, and how did you develop your distinctive technique? How does your experience in the cosmetic industry influence your approach to facial massage and client care?

I commenced my journey in the beauty sector at Nuxe, when high-end cosmetics were becoming available in French pharmacies. This was a time marked by innovation, as we set out to revolutionize the way beauty products were distributed – before online shopping for beauty became common. During my ten-year tenure at Aesop, I’ve been working on nurturing the brand's growth in France and across Europe, nearly from the start and developing its retail network. This experience significantly influenced my perception of the customer experience, instilling in me a deep appreciation for attention to detail and a heightened sensitivity to sensory elements. While I was at Aesop, I was actively exploring the potential of developing Treatment rooms (spas). I could not imagine bringing something new and interesting to this business, without experimenting by myself. I started to learn face massages and treatments and I found myself falling in love with the art of face massages.

I see it as the pursuit of an exploration of beauty and the face in other forms. I passed my CAP in aesthetic cosmetics and perfumery at 35, I have been training in several massage techniques for over three years and I won't stop! I’ve studied the face in every direction in order to develop my own approach to massage.

Can you describe the core elements that set your facial massage approach apart? How do you personalize your facial massages to meet the unique needs and expectations of each client?

I've cultivated a diverse toolbox of techniques that enables me to tailor my methods to individual needs. Active listening and conversation are paramount in my approach, as it ensures that the treatment aligns with each person's specific requirements. Furthermore, I consider my work with a creative mindset, akin to an artist starting with a blank canvas. While my style is recognizable, I constantly challenge myself to infuse each session with a unique and personalized touch.

What role does emotional well-being and sensory stimulation play in your treatments?

The priority role ! What you feel, what you experiment, this is the key to touch the brain.

In addition, I believe that skincare should be a sensorial experience, engaging not only the skin but also the senses with delightful textures and appealing scents. This approach ensures that skincare is not just a daily chore but an enjoyable ritual that can be shared with loved ones.

Could you explain the benefits and importance of techniques like lymphatic drainage and intra-buccal massage?

Face massage is about working on the face, neck and chest muscles, blood and lymphatic circulations. Aesthetic or detox lymphatic drainage of the face and neck stimulates the lymphatic system, the elimination of toxins, helps with the resorption of edema, significantly improves the radiance of the skin and chases away physical, nervous and emotional fatigue. Particularly recommended during the change of season, post-pregnancy or to increase the action of other techniques. Intraoral allows you to work the muscles from inside the mouth. This technique plumps the skin, relaxes tension in the lower face, decongests by stimulating lymph circulation and reduces wrinkles around the mouth and in the nasolabial fold. Particularly suitable in cases of bruxism or of anxiety that would be lodged in the jaws.

Can you share any memorable client transformations or feedback that have particularly impacted you?

I welcomed a woman in her forties. First thing she said to introduce herself, with a hint of anger was « I hate my face » We met once, then again. When she returned for our third session, she shared that she was in the process of reconciling with her face.

How do you stay updated with the latest trends and innovations in skincare and facial massage?

I don’t ! I rather ignore what is on trend or hype, as most of the time, it doesn’t last.

How do you see the future of facial massage evolving?

I find the synergy between both invasive and non-invasive technology and the power of natural touch to be truly exciting. This harmonious blend allows us to explore a broad spectrum of options for skincare. It empowers individuals to customize their skincare journey, setting the cursor at the point that resonates most with their preferences and needs.

What advice would you give to someone looking to improve their skincare routine at home, including your personal rituals?

Treating their face with respect and confidence. Select a few products made with potent ingredients that gently clean, provide robust protection and regenerate the skin. I encourage my clients to be aware when they touch their face, to feel the power of our senses. We wash our face and apply products everyday. it changes the entire experience to proceed with mindfulness, with confidence and precise gesture. Having said that, maintaining healthy skin often hinges on addressing various underlying factors  (hormones, microbiome…) So I would say better start with basics : hydrate with water and oxygen with exercise

Can you tell us about any recent collaborations or projects you are particularly excited about? Are there any upcoming residencies or events where clients can experience your work firsthand?

I am very excited to perform Residency at L'institut du Bon Marché on a punctual and regular basis to welcome my customers for Face Massages. And, hot news, I will be hosting two Workshops with the fantastic brand Subtle Energies, which combines the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with the modern science of aromatherapy to create holistic skincare solutions. We will be partnering together to walk a group of lucky ones to experiment a selection of products, combined with a powerful and associated gesture.

How do you choose your partners for collaborations, and what do you look for in these partnerships?

I work with three brands in official collaborations: Embryolisse, Neuraé, and Elizabeth Arden. I support each brand in relation to the beauty and power of touch, each in their own way, aligning with their unique philosophies. I also work on occasional projects with other brands, such as Subtle Energies, but in reality, very few. I choose my partners based on the brand's story, DNA, and values. One of the biggest questions to me is also “Am I integrating the product range in my daily routine ? Am I satisfied ?” And also, and above all, about the team behind the brand. It is essential for me to work in a spirit of mutual respect and trust, with complete integrity.

What future projects or collaborations are you looking forward to, and how do they align with your vision for your practice?

I consider my role to have one of the most rewarding missions in the world - helping people feel comfortable in their own skin. I will be busy spreading the message far and wide.I will also be extending my nomadic approach of face massages with a new residency. Stay tuned !
